I used to think that having pet rabbits was a bad idea - I thought they'd be hard to care for and that I might regret it. But since a month and a half ago when someone gave me a pair of baby bunnies as a no-reason-at-all gift, I realized I was mistaken.
They're wonderful. I've been really, really glad for having them around the house.
First of all, having a pet helps to lower stress and adds a few years to one's life (I learned that from Reader's Digest and from Oprah ). Pets generally help you get you a little less selfish and a little more caring. Even a little more responsible.
Though bunnies aren't exactly low-maintenance, they make great house pets. They don't make a lot of noise, they aren't unruly or overly demanding. What people usually don't know about them is that bunnies can show affection and appreciation for humans. And they're cuuuute. I don't care if they nip.
Having pets also gives me something to look forward to and care about, particularly when I don't feel like getting up in the morning. They keep me from being self-absorbed and obsessive, thus they keep me from depression. Having cuddly critters to care for makes for a very effective coping technique. =D
Also, the nature of rabbits - being sociable and moderately playful - just cheers me up. They give me that much-needed daily dose of utter cuteness.
