wonder manic dysphoria powers, activate!

today's flavor: H Y P O M A N I A
anxiety : 1
agitation : 1

In the past week, I made myself some money by ghost-writing website content, travel book articles, recipes and what-not.  It's not a lot of cash, but it's extra income nonetheless.  Besides, I'm merely on starting rates right now; after I produce 30 articles with good ratings, I can begin receiving up to ten dollars for a churning out a single serving of spam short work.  Not great, but not bad.  It keeps my mind sharp and my hands productive when I'm not ministering, drawing, snapping photos, making jewelry or otherwise occupied by some leisure activity.  Oh yesss, I is a busy bee.

I'd much prefer copy-editing or content-editing to writing though.  I'm quite good at it, given my OC behavior.  Cannily it is also due to my OCB that I find writing tiring, especially creative writing. Anyway, I just applied for an online editing job, and I'm hopingpraying that I get it.  In the meantime, I shall rest for a while to study for a class I'll be teaching on Saturday. Oh yesss, I is a busy bee.

saddy-coated smiley

today's weather: S L I G H T D Y S P H O R I A
anxiety : 1
agitation : 1

Actually, I think this is supposed to be an elevation.

Yes, I'm currently in an elevation.

Thoughts a-rushing like a mad waterfall, neon-glowing inspiration, elusive sleep. I laugh a lot though I feel very agitated. Best of all, I have genuinely happy thoughts and a constant smile.

The thing is, all that laughter and my constant smile is mostly on the inside. No one else can see it, but it's there, I swear. I've just been having some difficulty getting my physical body to say "I'm happy and I know it", so I kinda look like I'm all saddy instead of smiley.

Here's why: I'm currently on a nightly dose of Pregabalin, and Cetirizine Hydrochloride. The Pregabalin was prescribed by a rheumatologist for the impinged nerve/s in my hand/s. The Cetirizine is for my allergies; my rashes made a comeback and I'd prefer not to have them around. I chose not to take any drugs in the morning anymore (as per rheumatologist's suggestion) because they cause drowsiness and just drown me of energy. I mean drain me of energy. Not drown.

But since I'm actually in an elevation, I have just enough energy to go through the day despite the drowsiness. I'm just lethargic, but I can afford the strength to resist going back to bed, and my mind is (semi) sharp (at least sharp enough to watch science documentaries and remember most of it). Besides, I've written myself lengthy to-do lists, I don't want to waste time in a horizontal position.

So yeah, this is actually an elevation that has been tapered by sleepy side effects similar to the traits of a depression, so it is in effect a mixed episode.

But believe or not - as drowsy as the meds make me, I still can't freaking sleep. At most I can take several intermittent naps at night. No matter how tired I make myself in the day, the depths of sleep elude me; all I can do is swim over the surface.

It's possible of course that the sleep-loss is partially due to the discomfort caused by wrist guards. Sheesh, I have to sleep with wrist-guards now, on both hands, until they heal up. Good thing Dr. Rheumatologist didn't tell me to wear them the whole day. I still have to take the Pregabalin for around three months, so I suppose that's how long I still have to wear those wrist guards.

Speaking of the Pregabalin -- I did my own research and discovered its other side effects (Notice how doctors give prescriptions without mentioning the possible side effects?). After reading on Pregabalin's description and indication and so on, I get sucker-punched by a paragraph that starts with "You may have suicidal thoughts while on this drug". Oh, great. "You may suffer from depression".

Since I already have suicidal thoughts even without the drug, does that mean I'll have them more frequently and/or more intensely? I haven't noticed a difference yet. I should have told the rheumatologist I'm bipolar. But I didn't, because I didn't think it mattered. Darn.

But aside from the suicide note I began to mentally compose the other day, I think I'm okay. Well, I'll give the doc a call if things get worse. Tsk. But so far so good.

chatty chatter that makes the monophobia more monophobic

today's weather: S L I G H T D E P R E S S I O N
anxiety : 1
agitation : 1

I've had to rely on the happy yellow pills to function. They give me a bit of energy. Not too much; just enough to haul myself out of bed and get through the day.

I told the Hubby about the extermination rumination. He hid my craft-knife just to make sure I don't carry anything out. He knows he shouldn't not take it seriously.

I have another one in the art supplies box. A craft-knife, I mean. And a few cutters in the desk drawer.

But like I said previously, I'm not really going to do it. Slitting wrists is for teenagers; I'm neither emo nor cliche.

So I'm going for a stab to the jugular.

Kidding!

Like I said previously, I'm not really going to do it.

On another note, i think the happy yellow pills are side-effecting. I've been warned they're not supposed to be for bipolars, but I need uppers, so spank me.

I think they're making the imaginary chatter more chatty. The imaginary chatter has been getting chattier lately, I thought maybe the happy yellow pills have something to do with that. The chattier is getting chattier, making my monophobia more monophobic. I've been projecting slides in my head about cutting my ear off, wondering if that would make things a bit quieter.

Oh! -- So that's probably why Van Gogh did it. Cut his ear off, I mean. The souvenir bit could've just been a latter addendum.

Maybe it's time to return to the Lithium. :(

exit, depression; enter, creative rush

today's weather: S L I G H T D Y S P H O R I A
anxiety : 1 | agitation : 1
unwelcome visitors: ambient noise

It seems the depression dip of the year has passed; it usually happens within the period from July to September. In October I usually go on an upswing and catapult into dysphoria during the Holiday season.

This year's depression has been the happiest in the past few years. I sank into a moderate depression for one day only as far as I recall - much, much better than staying in it for weeks as have before. I believe the blues were curbed a bit by my having to shuttle to and fro regarding important family matters; it was a bit stressful but it kept my attention away from myself.

Also I commend myself for the wise move of getting out of RavenCorp; it's a huge factor.

Lately I haven't blogged as much - which ordinarily occurs when I'm feeling happier. As usual, I have a rush of creativity. These days' creativity is channeled into making decors for a Tim Burton Un-Birthday Party I'm organizing with my sister and a few of her friends (it's a wholesome alternative to Halloween). I've already made a bead-garland to hang from the lighting fixtures, and a few fake abstract paintings. Currently I'm working on a Nightmare-Before-Christmas tree (it's going to be oh so cute!) and little rag animals to hang on it.

"you just call out my name ... and you know, wherever i am ...

severe elev. | high elev. | moderate elev. | slight elev. | BASELINE | slight dep. | moderate dep. | deep dep. | severe dep. || anx: 2, agit: 3

... i'll come running toward the opposite direction because your episodes are really hard to deal with and i'd really rather not get my hands dirty, i ain't your friend... "

You know how it is when "friends" are all friendly and touchy-feely when you don't actually need them, and when you do need them for real, they aren't ever available? Sucksville.

Pet Peeve # 34.

I just feel like assaulting a piece of furniture right now. You know, like in the manner Tom Cruise did when he got all excited about Katie Holmes. Except not in a happy way.

So it was that when certain "friends" heard about the condition, they mouthed out stuff like "How can i help?," "When you need a friend, you can call me anytime". These particular friends I happened to invite to dinner several times, most if not all times were instances in which I was depressed and needed company-slash-someone to talk to, and all not most times were declined by said "friends".

I am extra pisse right now - it''s half past two a.m. at the moment of writing and i still can't get over it - because certain unfriendly actions of said "friends" swung me to a mad elevation, and I just needed them to do some explaining. Said "friends" were, not surprisingly, not available. I made sure to send them each an SMS on how I felt about their token when-you-need-a-friend, you-can-call-me-anytime crap.

Friend FAIL. Friendship over. Good riddance. Go flatter somebody else. It wouldn't make a difference anyway because you're hardly ever there.

Okay, I know i will read this tomorrow and be embarrassed at the level of maturity with which i wrote. NOTE TO SELF: DO NOT DELETE. Hahaha :D Show the world your low E.Q. and be proud of how emotionally unstable you are.

blink, blink

severe elevation | high elevation | moderate elevation | slight elevation | stable | slight depression | moderate depression | deep depression | severe depression || anx: 0, agit: 2

I am right now at a creative low, but at a productive high. I've been busier than usual and my attention is fixed on a couple of projects, so I haven't really had any time for creatives .

I had some sleep last night. No sleep at all the other night, which I spent thinking and praying and ruminating. Racing thoughts again. I almost pounced on somebody.

I've been feeling really edgy. I am once again guilty of skipping my Lithium. I think I've been off it for two weeks now. And as usual, I didn't do it on purpose. Really. I ran out of pills and I kept forgetting to buy some. The Hubby bought me a batch earlier today, so I no longer have an excuse.

I feel kinda distended. I'm so glad to be heading to the beach tomorrow. I'll be there for two days with the Hubby and the bunnies. Wish it could be two weeks. I'll be collecting myself so I can be ready to dive into more stress afterwards.

'Tis The Season To Be ... Jolly?

severe elevation | high elevation | moderate elevation | slight elevation | stable | slight depression | moderate depression | deep depression | severe depression || anx : 2 , agit : 3

You mean right now? Ugh.

'Tis the season to be dysphoric is more like it. Mind is racing. Mind is racing mind is racing mind is racing. Mindisracingmindisracingmindisracingmindisracing. Raging. Restless and edgy (manic symptoms). But overall lethargic, fatigued for no apparent reason, touchy, broody, kinda heavy and having no appetite for eating (deppressive symptoms). Stressed and stretched due to the holiday hassle.

I told myself I'd try to have a great time today, and really, I tried. But party preparations, the volume of people in our house, and a rapid-fire of stupid interlocutions and interruptions just had me retreating into my room even before lunch was served. To add insult to injury, somebody told me to relax (!?) Buggre alle this. I wanted to not come out until after all the guests have left, but I decided I didn't want to be a no-show at a party we were hosting.

Why does Christmas have to be so darned complicated?

Yule '08, I rub you out with a rag doused in turpentine.

I don't even feel like eating all this food.

Sigh. I at least got a few nice gifts. Most were thoughtful rubbish I wouldn't really care anything for except to sell at the next garage sale, but there were some keepers. I'm glad I didn't spend much for gifts and trimming this year; at least I don't feel shortchanged.

December, Thou Art Mine Friend and Foe

severe elevation | high elevation | moderate elevation | slight elevation | normal | slight depression | moderate depression | deep depression | severe depression || anx : 1 , agit : 1

'Tis the season to be ... jolly?
(I need to put creds for this but I've had it so long, I don't remember where I got it).

I hate Decembers.

And it's not a
bah humbug, anti-Christmas spirit. I actually like the holidays and I enjoy participating in the feasting, gift-exchanging and other niceties implied. For that matter, though I think Christmas has become so commercialized and overrated, I also think Scroogery has become a sore, pathetic attempt at nonconformity.

So lemme just get that straight:
I like Christmas. At least I think I do. I'm usually generally apathetic about it and have learned not too expect too much, but I more or less like Christmas.

It's just that December has often been unkind to me.

Let me explain: My chemical fluctuations have proven to be most unpredictable sometime around this time of the year. Mixed episodes, i.e., symptoms of both elevation and depression at the same time. Mixed like Christmas fruit salad with raisins and cheap cheese cubes that don't belong there.
How's that for torture? The drugs, me thinks, aren't even much use at this time since having mixed episodes makes it kinda hard to gauge which drugs to continue on, increase, decrease and so on.

Furthermore, the
happy Yuletide season is laden with all sorts of triggers and stressors that make a fine and dandy mess out of me.

Deadlines, traffic, crowds, decisions.
Shopping. Wrapping. Accumulated clutter.
Colds. Rashes. Cold rashes.
Required appearances. Obligatory parties.
Screaming nephews. Noise pollution. The neighbors' videoke vice on full blast; Aegis, Bon Jovi, April Boy and belter songs they can't possibly reach.
Prying in-laws. Annoying questions such as
"When will you have kids?" and "What do you do for a living?".

A lot of times I
do end up Grinch-like and wish I could flush December down the toilet along with my vomit.

I'm not even going to say
I hope this Christmas will be a great one and blah. I'm pretty sure there will be some things good about it, as well as some things not-so-good. Hubby and I have to make sure to have a holiday after the Holidays. De-stress after all the Season's stress.

----------------------------------------
I'm kinda glad the Hubby decided not to spend on gifts for this Christmas. Aside from the benefit of saving money, we also minimize on the hassles of shopping crowds and traffic jams.

We aren't Scrooging our way through the holidays; not at all. We just decided not to succumb to the modern traditions that really have nothing to do with Christ's birth. Of course I feel slightly bad (and embarassed) that I won't be giving anything to anyone, but I suppose they'll understand if I said we're trying to save cash, right? Besides, after February, no one will give a fig about it.

But anyway, I thought of ordering little chocolates to give out as gifts. Just in case .

It's otherwise a good feeling, actually. I mean , compared to how I usually feel in December. I'm not worrying as much as I used to about gifts and wrappings and ribbons. I'm glad I didn't swim through the stinking sea of people at Divisoria. I like that I don't have to stay up late working and embellishing. I like that I have a lot less things to think about this year. I like that I don't have to make my dysphoria /dysphoric mania worse than it already is.

in the indigo haze

severe elevation | high elevation | moderate elevation | slight elevation | normal | slight depression | moderate depression | deep depression | severe depression || anx : 3 , agit : 2

Getting up in the morning has been sheer torture lately. I feel like I've been getting worse, sinking into indigo and deep violet. I can still manage to hold my head up and carry myself quite passably in public (I think), though I often feel afloat, clouded, distant, unfocused and... what was I saying? It may be a gamble to throw me in an uncomfortable situation, and it's still definitely a must to stay away from the triggers.

Let me just say last Sunday was hell. I doubt anyone noticed though. While everyone had their happy day, I had to lock myself in a darkened room while I bawled.

I've just gotten tired of fighting it. I know I could, but I also know that that won't do much. Both Dr. C and Dr. Z say that all I could do is ... yeah, I've thought and said it over and over, I'd rather not say it again here.

The yellow pills do their job, but they give me mixed episodes. In the event of even the slightest trigger, I notice that I am instantly thrown into manic (elevated) levels accompanied agitation and anxiety. When I did my research on the yellow pills, I learned that they do have that nasty side effect (particularly on Bipolars); I asked Dr. C about it and she says they're alright as long as I take them with the Lithium. Besides, I prefer having mixed episodes instead of purely depressive ones.

The Bland, Gray Porridge of the Past Decade

severe elevation | high elevation | moderate elevation | slight elevation | normal | slight depression | moderate depression | deep depression | severe depression || anx : 1 , agit : 1

I had a chat with my brother recently about how his friends from high school have aged and so forth. I met most of his high school friends and it was fun talking about them again, even if I don't quite know how they look like nowadays. He filled in the blanks about who gained weight and who lost hair, who got married, who went to live abroad and other interesting details of what occurred in the past decade.

In that conversation, there was something my brother said that resonated in my soul: He said, casually and unaffectedly, "Hmmm .. I don't know where the past ten years went."

Funny; I agreed with him. I really feel the same way.

It's as if my life until age 21 had been a roaring cornucopia of various colors and flavors, while everything else since then had muddled into a bland porridge of gray. I can look back fondly and with much interest at my young years, even though they were full of pain and trauma; but when I reminisce on my twenties, it's as if there's hardly anything there, like every day was just the same dull flavor. I supposed it was because I had too much life (not necessarily fun or good) as a teenager, and then due to certain details in my family background I felt the urge to grow up and get serious earlier than I should have.

I recall that's exactly what I forced myself to do - grow up and get serious after twenty. I ditched my artsy, full-of-personality garb and took on a pathetic attempt to be a responsible human being. I toted a boring, black filofax in exchange for my wild journals and sketchbooks. I cleaned up, went into an internship program, got married and got a job. I played adult because that's what people over twenty do. I wanted to make a decent, fulfilled life for myself.

And when I look back - as I told my brother - everything in the past ten years was just about working, working, working. The same mucky gray porridge every single day of the decade. Now that I've quit my job I see how I probably could have wasted the past ten years of my life in the pursuit of being a "mature, productive adult citizen". But then again, I can't imagine doing it any other way - money had to be earned, food had to be bought, bills had to be paid and work had to be done. That vicious cycle in a salaried man's life.

I considered the possibility that this may be how a lot of people feel when they hit the line of 3. But then I did a little survey of sorts among my friends and their answers vary. Some of them only began to have that cornicopic sense of existence in their mid-twenties, when they began to earn, and were free from their parents and beginning to experiment with all sorts of things (Huh. Admittedly , I started experimenting early and got bored of it early). One friends answered that age 30 is so far the best year of her life, now that she has kids. So I guess it isn't about age but really the content of the years.

I feel like I've grown up too soon, and i sometimes wish that I hadn't . But on the other hand, if i hadn't, I 'd be like my friends who are still living with their parents and acting like college kids way past their 25th birthday. I 'm not sure what'd be more disgusting - being 35 at 25, or 15 at 25.

I'm thinking about how I could and should make my like fuller and more productive now. But then there's that nagging sense of what if. In my decision to become something with perfectly good intent and sound planning, things might flub up again and result in another decade of gray porridge because I forced myself to have a good life. Sigh. Only time will tell.
